Full List of 62 Trains Remaining at Hua Lamphong Station

On the afternoon of Thursday 19th January 2023, a total of 52 long distance trains on the Northern, Northeastern and Southern lines will move to the new Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal Station (Bang Sue Grand). This will leave 62 commuter and ordinary trains as well as tourist trains, at Bangkok Railway Station (Hua Lamphong). This includes all trains on the Eastern Line as they turn off before the track reaches Bang Sue Junction.

One way to remember this is that all of the Special Express, Express and Rapid trains will move to the brand new terminal. These trains have the best rolling stock and the newest locomotives. The ones that remain at the old terminal are the slow 3rd Class trains that stop at every station (ordinary) and the trains that bring workers into central Bangkok (commuter). In addition, all of the tourist excursion trains will remain here too.

The following are the trains that will remain at Hua Lamphong.

  • Hello Richard,
I wanna take the train from Bangkok to Pattaya this coming weekend.
I have a couple of questions which I would appreciate your feedback on.

    1) Does the train at 645am operate from Hua Lamphong or Bang Sue Terminal ?

    2) Being a tourist, where can I purchase the tickets from in advance ? Online or at the railway station ( do they have seat selection at the station when we book )

    3) Finally, can the tickets be booked in advance either in person or online ( with international debit /credit cards ? )

Thanks a ton for your time and feedback.

    Cheers mate.
    Vik

    • All trains along the eastern line, including to Pattaya, leave from Bangkok (Hua Lamphong) Station.

You can buy tickets in advance for the express to Pattaya which has A/C but the slower 3rd Class train with fan you can only buy on the day at the station. Cash is king.

In the future you might find it easier to post questions in the Facebook group as we can also post pictures to help answer questions: https://www.facebook.com/groups/thaitrainguide

  • Are there any rules of thumb for which types of trains have the cheap 3rd class seats? And can those tickets be purchased in advance or only on the day of travel? Thank you.

    • I would say most if not all 3rd Class carriages on local and commuter trains that go from Hua Lamphong can only be booked on the day. For the long distance trains, if your journey is less than 25% of the entire route, you have to book on the day too.

  • Hi, I am confused as to which station to go. I want to go to Ayutthaya (from Bangkok) and I wand to take the train. Some sites say Hua Lamphong is closed and some say it’s still operating. Please advice.

    • Local trains still go from Hua Lamphong. Long distance trains, that also stop at Ayutthaya, go from the new Krung Thep Aphiwat Station.

    • I would personally take Special Express No. 7 as it has comfortable seats and A/C. Leaves Krung Thep Aphiwat at 9:05 am.

  • Hi,
I’m interested in taking train journeys; Which destination we should choose? How many days is taken? How to check the price?

Can you please share more the information to me about the journey? as I no idea at all.

    • I am sorry that is a very difficult question to answer. There are like 112 trains. Some have short journeys, some long. Some go north. Some go south.
