I just returned from Bkk and tried to use the SRT train service from KTA or Bang Sue Grand Station. From a passenger and a foreigner's point of view, the operation of intercity services at Bang Sue area is quite chaotic. From the tracking of rail services at SRT's website, there are several stops at Bang Sue area, namely KWP, Bang Son, and Bang Sue Junction. KTA serves mainly rapid, express, and special express intercity trains at fare of several hundreds baht. Bang Son and Bang Sue Junction are at-grade intermediate stops of non-aircon commuter intercity train services originated from Hua Lamphong (Bangkok) terminal which are located right next to KWP and Bang Son (Red line) stations. The fare is around 10-60 baht or below 100 baht (depends on how far you go). The funny thing is that neither KTA + Bang Son (Red Line) stations nor SRT's electronic D-ticket system sell commuter train tickets and you have to buy on spot at stops 2 hours before scheduled leaving.

I just downloaded your guide, Singapore to Bangkok. Very useful, thanks. Especially the details re immigration checks at padang besar......saves us getting antsy waiting for something to happen. Thanks also for the notes regarding where toilets are not available.
We are travelling in Feb 2025, taking about 12 days from KL to Bangkok, staying a couple of days in each major town, some of which we already know quite well.... but we were lacking a bit of specific train details. I should let you know that I used the SRT D-Ticket site to book our sleepers from Padang Besar to Bangkok, and had no major dramas, it accepted my Aussie credit card also! Thanks again

Hi Richard,

Was wondering if it is possible to change name details for a train ticket once it has already been issued? I missed mentioning my friend's surname and now the ticket has been booked under her first and middle names. Will this cause any problems?

Yes, to confirm that the station on the ground level has closed and that all trains now stop at the elevated station. There is a skybridge between the airport and this station and so no need to go down to the street. I am not sure which timetable you are referring to, but the train will only stop for a few minutes.

Wow, your guides are really full of passion and very good information. Thank you so much since it's really inspiring.

In Oktober 2022 at Don Muang the trains left still at the very inconvient lower station under the new railway track. With luggage we took the long walk via the (new) skybridge to the new station only to find out after lots of confusing information that we had to run in the heat downstairs along the highway to the lower station where we catched our night train to UR.

Now it's really advisable to enter the train at Don Muang since you mentioned the closure of the lower station and since the trains stop in Don Muang anyway for 10 - 20 minutes according to your timetable.
