SRT and Police Join Forces to Boost Onboard and Station Security
In a continued effort to improve passenger safety across Thailand’s rail network, the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) is strengthening its partnership with the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) to implement enhanced security measures at stations and on board trains—especially long-distance services.
Veeris Ammarapala, Governor of the State Railway of Thailand, emphasized that the SRT has long worked closely with the Railway Crime Suppression Center under the CIB to maintain a visible and reassuring security presence on its trains. “This collaboration plays a critical role in maintaining trust among passengers, particularly on overnight and long-haul routes,” said Veeris.
Contrary to public speculation, the number of police officers assigned to trains has not decreased. In fact, the SRT is actively reviewing plans to increase the number of onboard officers, including the addition of female police officers, to better address the needs of all passengers and ensure a safe travel environment. The deployment of female officers is expected to offer added reassurance to women and families traveling alone.
“Having trained officers onboard, especially on journeys that last several hours, significantly enhances passengers’ sense of safety,” Veeris noted. “It’s a key factor in elevating the overall quality of our services.”
The SRT is also committed to a broader strategy of modernizing its security framework through structured, long-term collaboration with national security agencies. This aligns with the railway’s vision of providing a modern, safe, and reliable rail transport system that supports efficient travel throughout all regions of Thailand.
As ridership continues to grow—particularly with the use of Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal as the new main hub for long-distance travel—these measures are seen as vital to maintaining public confidence and ensuring the railway remains a dependable mode of transport for all.
