Lop Buri Railway Station
Lop Buri Railway Station is a Class 1 station on Thailand’s Northern Line, located in Lop Buri Province, about 133 kilometres north of Bangkok. It serves as the main station for the city and a key stop for local and commuter trains running between Bangkok and Phitsanulok. The station sits in the heart of Lop Buri city, within walking distance of the old town’s historical attractions such as Phra Prang Sam Yot, King Narai’s Palace, and the city’s famous population of monkeys that roam freely around the ancient ruins. Please note, the long distance trains now bypass the city and stop at the new Lop Buri 2 (Tha Wung) Station.

History & Background
The railway reached Lop Buri in 1896, making it one of the earliest provincial stations on the Northern Line. For more than a century, it served as a vital hub linking the central plains with northern Thailand. With the construction of the Lop Buri–Pak Nam Pho double-track railway, a new elevated station — Lop Buri 2 (Tha Wung) — opened in December 2025 to handle long-distance trains, while the original Lop Buri Station continues to serve local and suburban services.
The old station, located near the city’s historical centre, remains a landmark in its own right. Its proximity to Lop Buri’s ancient temples and the playful macaques that have become symbols of the city makes it one of the most memorable stations on the Northern Line.
