Ban Dara Railway Bridge

Poramin Bridge, also known as Ban Dara Bridge, is a railway bridge over the Nan River in Phichai District, Uttaradit Province. It is located south of Ban Dara Junction railway station.

The bridge was built in 1906 by a German engineer and is the second longest railway bridge on the Northern Line. It was named after Dara Rasmi, one of King Chulalongkorn’s (Rama V) consorts, who was a northern person.

In April 1944, the bridge was damaged by Allied bombers. Sadly, many Thai villagers were killed by shrapnel or machine gun bullets when the air planes flew low and strafed the surrounding area.

The bridge was rebuilt in a different style and reopened in 1953.
