The line from Bangkok reached Nakhon Pathom in 1903, making the station one of the oldest on the Southern Line. From its opening, it served as a key provincial stop, linking the agricultural heartlands west of Bangkok with the capital. Over time, the station became closely associated with the nearby Phra Pathom Chedi, which remains one of the most visited Buddhist monuments in Thailand.

Today, Nakhon Pathom Station continues to function as both a commuter hub and a stop on long-distance southern services, while also attracting visitors who use the train as a convenient way to reach the city’s cultural and religious landmarks.
