Shrapnel damage can be seen on the support pillars of Huai Mae Ta Railway Bridge

Between Den Chai and Ban Pin stations, you will ride over the historic Huai Mae Ta Railway Bridge. This crosses the Yom River in Phrae. There are actually two bridges though only one remains.

In 1944, the bridge was bombed by Allied forces as part of their efforts to disrupt Japanese supply lines. The bridge was badly damaged and was abandoned. After the war, a new bridge was built alongside the old one. You can still see shrapnel damage in the concrete support pillars of the original bridge.
