SRT slashes number of commuter trains on Southern Line due to low ridership.

The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) has cut in half the number of commuter trains on the route between Thonburi and Nakhon Pathom due to low passenger numbers. The route was first introduced to be a “feeder train” for people living on the Western outskirts of Bangkok to come into work and connect to the Red and Blue lines at Taling Chan and Jharan Sanitwong respectively. However, according to SRT, the number of passengers has decreased to approximately 850 people per day or on average 42 people per train.

In June 2022, they had proudly announced that an additional train would run on this route bringing the total to 22 trains per day. The reduction in services, that start on 15th September 2023, means that only eight trains will run a day.
